Phase Two of USMLE Service Transition is Complete, Step 3 Exam Services for Students and Graduates of U.S. Medical Schools Now Managed by NBME

Posted: January 26, 2026

Phase two of the United States Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE®) Service Transition is complete.  USMLE co-sponsor NBME now manages all Step 3 exam services for graduates of U.S. medical schools, including exam registration, score report delivery, and customer service, through its MyUSMLE℠ Portal

The USMLE Service Transition simplifies the examinee journey and creates a more consistent and efficient process for applicants. To do this, all Step exam services have been combined under the USMLE co-sponsors, the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) and NBME. FSMB now manages all USMLE Step exam services for students and graduates of international medical schools (IMGs). NBME now manages all USMLE Step exam services for students and graduates of U.S. medical schools.
