FSMB to Process USMLE® Transcripts for ERAS Starting in June 2026

As part of a larger effort to create an improved examinee experience, the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB), a co-sponsor of the United States Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE®) program, will begin processing all transcript requests for the 2027 Electronic Residency Application Service® (ERAS®) application season in June 2026.

This change streamlines the transcript request process by centralizing all USMLE transcript requests with FSMB, which already processes all other USMLE transcript requests.

Examinees who wish to submit USMLE transcripts to the ERAS system must submit their requests and payment through FSMB’s USMLE portal

In the coming weeks, the USMLE program will announce an official June start date for processing transcripts for ERAS. Please continue to monitor USMLE.org for program updates.

FAQs

  • What date can I begin requesting my transcript for ERAS through FSMB?
Starting in June 2026, you will request your USMLE transcript for your ERAS application through FSMB’s USMLE portal. The USMLE program will release additional information about the timing of this change in the coming weeks.

  • Which USMLE examinees does this change impact?
All USMLE examinees, regardless of the location of medical school, will submit transcript requests for their ERAS application through FSMB’s USMLE portal.

  • What steps will I need to take to submit my USMLE transcript to ERAS?  Please follow the steps below to submit your USMLE transcript to the ERAS system.

    1. Create an account in FSMB’s USMLE portal if you do not have one already.
    2. Once you have an account established in FSMB’s USMLE portal, you will be able to submit your transcript request through the portal. The ERAS program will receive your transcript electronically through a secure, online transfer.
    3. Once the ERAS program has received your transcript, you will select the programs to which you would like to apply in your MyERAS® account. The ERAS program will then provide your USMLE transcript directly to those programs through the ERAS portal. For more information about this process, please visit the AAMC website.

  • How much will it cost to submit my USMLE transcript to the ERAS program?
The cost for submitting your USMLE transcript to the ERAS system will be $70. This is a one-time fee per residency application cycle.

  • How long will it take for the ERAS program to receive my USMLE transcript after I submit my request?
After you have submitted your USMLE transcript request through FSMB’s USMLE portal, the ERAS system will typically receive your transcript the same day.

  • What might delay the processing of my USMLE transcript for the ERAS system?
Incorrectly entering your USMLE ID in your MyERAS account will impact the ability of FSMB to send your transcript to the ERAS system. Additionally, discrepancies such as your name or date of birth may delay the processing of your transcript for the ERAS portal. If there are any issues processing your transcript, FSMB will communicate directly with you.

  • What should I do if I need to submit my USMLE transcript to another residency service?
FSMB also processes USMLE transcript requests for ResidencyCAS, which is used by Obstetrics and Gynecology and Emergency Medicine specialty programs. You can submit your transcript request for ResidencyCAS in FSMB’s USMLE portal. ResidencyCAS will receive your transcript electronically through a secure, online transfer.

  • What is the reason for this change?
This change streamlines the transcript request process by centralizing all USMLE transcript requests with one organization, USMLE co-sponsor FSMB. With this change, you will be able to make all USMLE transcript requests through FSMB’s USMLE portal.

  • Who should I contact if I have any questions?
You can find more information about all USMLE transcript requests on FSMB’s website. If you have additional questions, please reach out to FSMB at +1 (817) 868-4041 or transcripts@fsmb.org
