How to Reschedule

You can schedule and reschedule your USMLE exam on the Prometric website.

If Your Test Center Closes on Your Step 3 Test Date(s)

If your test center is closed due to inclement weather or other issues and you are not able to test, you must do the following:

If you have not opened the exam at all (i.e., not yet taken Day 1), send an email to FSMB at usmle@fsmb.org
If you have opened any part of the exam (i.e., started or completed Day 1), send an email to USMLE Test Admin at testadmin@nbme.org
The email should include: your full name, USMLE ID, test center location, brief summary of the issue (e.g., center closed due to inclement weather) and the ticket number from Prometric, if provided.

The test center closure will be verified directly with Prometric. This takes several business days. Once the closure is verified, you will be contacted via email with detailed information for rescheduling your test date(s). A free extension of your eligibility period will be provided, if needed, to allow you time to reschedule.

Rescheduling Fees

For Appointments at Prometric Test Centers for Step 1, Step 2 CK, and Step 3 Examinations

Prometric will charge a fee if USMLE examinees change testing appointments (e.g., reschedule, cancel, change test center location) at Prometric Test Centers forty-five or fewer days before their scheduled test date. No fee is charged for changing testing appointments 46 or more days prior to the first day of the scheduled test.

The date that you change your appointment, using local time at the Regional Registration Center for the Prometric Testing Region, will determine whether you pay a fee and the amount of this fee.

A schedule of fees is provided in the table below. As stated in the USMLE Bulletin of Information, appointments may be changed by following the instructions on your Scheduling Permit. You will need to provide your Prometric Confirmation Number when you change your appointment. If you reschedule, your rescheduled test date(s) must fall within your assigned eligibility period.

* For Step 3 administrations, if you are rescheduling one or more, but fewer than all days of your appointment, between 1 and 5 days prior to your first scheduled test date, you will be charged a rescheduling fee of $135.
