As part of a larger effort to create an improved examinee experience, the United States Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE®) program will launch a new registration portal on March 10, 2025. The MyUSMLESM Portal will replace the existing NBME Licensing Exam Services (NLES) platform to support Step 1 and Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (CK) exam registration and related services for students and graduates of medical education programs accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) and Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA).
Existing NLES examinee accounts will be automatically transferred into the MyUSMLE Portal. Until March 10, examinees should continue to use the NLES platform for all registration and related services for Step 1 and Step 2 CK.
IMPORTANT! While these changes are being implemented, all registration services will be temporarily unavailable from 9:00 p.m. ET on March 9, 2025, through the morning of March 10, 2025. During this period, you will be unable to access your account in the NLES platform or the MyUSMLE Portal. Services are expected to resume on the morning of March 10, and you will be notified when the MyUSMLE Portal becomes active. If you are testing on March 10 or March 11, please plan to download your scheduling permit by March 9 to avoid any potential service interruptions on your exam day. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding as we work to improve the user experience.

FAQs:
- Will there be any service interruptions?
Yes. All registration services will be temporarily unavailable from 9:00 p.m. ET on March 9, 2025, through the morning of March 10, 2025, while the USMLE program transfers accounts into the MyUSMLE Portal. Services are expected to resume on the morning of March 10, and you will be able to access the MyUSMLE Portal at that time. If you are testing on March 10 or March 11, please plan to download your scheduling permit by March 9 to avoid any potential service interruptions on your exam day. - What’s the last date to access my account in the NLES platform?
The last date to access your account on the NLES platform is March 9, 2025. Your account will then be automatically transferred that evening into the new MyUSMLE Portal, and you will be able to access it on March 10, 2025, once the launch is completed. - How do I access my account in the MyUSMLE Portal?
- If you have an active account on the current NLES platform, you will receive an email on March 10, 2025, with instructions for logging in to the MyUSMLE Portal once it is live.
- If you do not have an NLES account and are a student or graduate of a medical school accredited by the LCME or COCA, you will be able to create a MyUSMLE account once the portal is live on March 10, 2025.
- Does this change affect international medical students and graduates (IMGs)?
Not immediately. USMLE’s co-sponsors, FSMB and NBME, are developing plans to centralize all USMLE service functions. As part of these plans, USMLE services currently provided to IMGs by ECFMG®, a division of Intealth™, will transition to FSMB and NBME. This transition is expected to take place no earlier than mid-2025. Until then, ECFMG will continue to provide USMLE services to IMGs. Updates will be provided as they become available. Please continue to monitor USMLE.org for any announcements. - What's the reason for this change?
The new MyUSMLE Portal is part of a larger effort to create a consistent and efficient examinee experience. In future phases, the MyUSMLE Portal will offer additional services and functionality. - Who should I contact if I have questions?
Please contact webmail@nbme.org or (215) 590-9700 with any questions about the MyUSMLE Portal.
